Three different things
| Feature | What it does | What it doesn't do |
|---|---|---|
| Sign-in | Identifies your account | Does not itself enable Cloud Sync |
| Cloud Sync (optional) | Synchronizes supported financial records across opted-in devices | Not a complete copy of every raw import, attachment, derived report or exported file |
| Backup everything ZIP | Creates a restorable snapshot of supported Cashflow data | Not a substitute for a separate Business Documents ZIP or reconnecting external services |
1. Save your recovery copy
Use Backup everything. Store the ZIP somewhere other than only the device it came from. Protect it as sensitive financial data and make another backup before major migrations, resets or budget-history changes.
2. Include supporting Business files
If you use supporting Business attachments, export the separate Documents ZIP from Business settings. The main financial backup and the documents archive serve different purposes.
3. Set up a second device carefully
Install Cashflow Pilot on the new device, sign in if you use an account, and enable Cloud Sync only if you intend to share its supported records. Confirm recent account/transaction changes on both devices before retiring the original device. Keep the backup until the move is verified.
4. When there's a sync conflict
Don't repeatedly turn sync on and off or erase local data to force a clean status. Back up the most complete device, read the affected-record conflict information and choose the correct record deliberately. Editing the same Zero-Based month on two devices may require explicit resolution.
5. Know what's local-only
Some raw import history, generated/exported artifacts, supporting documents and selected application settings remain local. Optional external connections may need to be established again. Cloud Sync scope can evolve, so check in-app settings before assuming any particular file is available on another device.
