Start with accurate pay runs
Before preparing year-end employee reporting, verify finalized runs, adjustments, province details and year-to-date earnings and deductions. Corrections can affect annual slip totals.
1. Reconcile payroll totals
Compare gross wages, deductions, employer contributions and net pay across the payroll ledger and financial statements. Reconcile amounts owed and paid to government agencies.
2. Review the relevant workpapers
Cashflow includes Canadian payroll reporting workpapers and T4/T5-related overlays. Treat these as preparation aids, not evidence that a CRA filing has been submitted. Confirm the reporting year, employee and payee details, slip types, applicable forms and submission requirements with your payroll/accounting reviewer.
3. Look for incomplete records
Check missing pay periods, manual adjustments, taxable benefits, incorrect work provinces, terminated employees and remittances that were not matched. Review ROE-related workpapers when appropriate.
4. Keep sensitive information secure
Employee identifiers and payroll exports can contain personal information. Share workpapers only through an appropriate secure channel, and don't paste identifiers into support or feedback posts. Some identifiers deliberately stay local rather than entering Cloud Sync.
5. File using the authority's required process
Follow the CRA and, where applicable, Revenu Québec filing process and deadlines. Cashflow does not automatically file or transmit payroll slips or payments.
Continue with running payroll, tracking remittances and exporting accountant records.
